I am preparing for our "Summer Fun Club" at our church. The theme is about Jesus as our Rock of Ages. As I am preparing for children ages 3 - 6th grade, the Lord has also given me points for adults to convict me. I decided that I would share those with me and let you walk through the study with me. These are not perfect but just lessons I have learned as I have studied my Bible.
The first thing that stood out to me as I studied was that there was always more than one gold hunter. I look at this in two ways.
First, when gold was found out West, it created a massive gold rush. Everyone wanted to go West to find the gold. There was always more than one person working to find the gold. In our Christian life, we are not alone. There is more than one person who is working to find the true gold in our lives. If only one person went West to find gold, then it wouldn't have been a "gold rush". So don't ever fall into the trap of accepting the "fool's gold" belief that there is not alot of people who are truly working for Christ.
Second, when real gold was found it caused a rush of people to look for gold. This is our witness. If we keep in mind that Christ is the "true or real gold", the only way people we meet every day will know about the value of the gold we have in our lives, is if they see that value in the way we live our lives. How are we living? Are we showing people the "true gold" or are we showing them "fool's gold". A personal testimony is an effective method for convincing people to do something. If we want people to stop hoarding the "fool's gold" of the world and accept the "true gold" of Christ, then we need to have a testimony to cause that desire to have what we have. When people see changed lives and watch God's power at work, they will want that power also. Those close to you should be able to see God at work in your live, in your words, and in your actions.
What kind of gold are you demonstrating this week? The "fool's gold" of the world- where it glitters and looks like real gold but has no value or the "true gold" of Christ that has riches far greater than anything we could even dream of here on earth?
